Consequently, Dr. Sturdivant is also very active in the community. She serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Trauma Studies in Education (JTSE), and she is a member of the SEL4NC Leadership Team. In addition, she provides exciting read-alouds to area youth in costume. She is the author of two books, Somebody Told You A Lie and My Heart Leaks Ink. Her volunteer services are unending as she strives to empower youth one child at a time.
Dr. Sturdivant is proud to have received recognition as one of ten honorees for the WFMY News 2 “2 Those Who Care” award in 2006 for volunteering in the community with youth. In addition, she is a 2016 graduate of Other Voices, a 7-month leadership training that promotes diversity and inclusion. She is caring, considerate, and constantly contributing to the lives of others because she truly believes we should strive to empower others and work to “be the change we wish to see in the world.” ~ Mohandas Gandhi
Dr. Brooksie Broome Sturdivant is a native of Walnut Cove, NC, which is located in Stokes County. She currently resides in Raleigh, NC with her husband, Mr. Norlonn A. Sturdivant.
FOUNDER
Dr. Brooksie Broome Sturdivant is the founder of 3e LLC, an educational consulting company that promotes Equity and Empowerment through Education. She earned a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) from Appalachian State University. She completed an award-winning, qualitative study titled Resilient African-American Women: Autoethnographic and Narrative Inquiry of Subjectivity and Agency, which explores the impact of maternal neglect on children and young adults. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Middle Grades Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition, she holds a Master of School Administration degree and a Specialist of Education (Ed.S.) certificate from Appalachian State University as well as a Nonprofit Management Certification program with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Having worked in education as a teacher, literacy coach, curriculum facilitator, intervention coordinator, district-level equity and behavioral health specialist, community partnership coordinator, and adjunct professor, Dr. Sturdivant loves developing and facilitating professional development sessions, coaching teachers, volunteering in the community, and mentoring underserved youth. During her teaching tenure, she co-founded the “Mentoring in the Middle” after-school program and GIRL TIME, a community-based enrichment program for adolescent females. She also served as the coordinator for the Ladybugs program for high school girls for seven years and as an Executive Director for a local Freedom School program for five years. In addition, she was recognized as Teacher of the Year for her school and was one of five finalists for the district's Teacher of the Year recognition.
